Flying-Prober test

Test Port utilises the currently most innovative Flying Probe test system: a Flying Scorpion FLS.

Our Flying Probe test system allows the in-circuit testing of loaded pcb assemblies without a test fixture. PCB assemblies can thus be electrically tested with minimal lead time whilst avoiding the costly and time consuming process of test fixture manufacture. This opens up new possibilities for testing protypes or pre-production batches.

Should the PCB layout of an assembly be modified, there is no need to drill and wire up a new test fixture to be able to test it. The new netlist, coordinates and component values can simply be integrated into its existing test project.

The integrated Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) allows the optical checking of components e.g. for presence, orientation, polarity etc. Barcodes can be scanned and the most common fonts recognised and evaluated (OCR).

The unique 3-dimensional precision mechanics of the Scorpion Flying Prober allow a high degree of access flexibility, easily permitting electrical contact to be made between, or often even under, tall components and connectors.

Even large pcb assemblies with tall components can be tested.

The electrical contact is achieved using spring-loaded probes, which contact the electrical nodes of a circuit, for example testpads, solderpads, pcb tracks, IC-leads, connector pins etc. The most common in-circuit test methods and functional cluster tests are used to test analogue devices and passive components. Vectorless test techniques (ChipScanTM + CScanTM) allow the integrity of IC lead connections to be verified. Sensitive test points can be contacted using a special, material-friendly, gentle probing mode.

The Flying Prober allows the testing of assemblies which have not been designed according to DFT (Design For Testability) rules, or whose function does not permit the allocation of test pads on every circuit node.

Special connection techniques can also be used to allow on-board programming of devices following successful pre-test of an assembly.
